TRADITIONAL TYPES OF BASKET CAPS
There are two basic categories of basket caps in local Indian languages. Their Indian names are a combination of the word for cap with another word often identifying their most prominent
material. For example, in Yurok, according to Georgina Trull the basic names are athl-wah-eka (Indian cap) and wapa-wah-eka (spruce cap). The first type is the work cap, made mostly with
roots and little overlay (fig. 3).
