Kingfisher Snitches Food

In the morning Kingfisher went to fish. He sang: "Taniminok! Taniminok! Taniminok!" Then he caught a salmon and drew it out and made a fire. He cut off the tail and tossed it to one side. Then he cooked the fish and ate it. When he went home he carried the fish tail. He called out: "Children, a tail!" "Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah!" they cried. "Many came to me to beg," he said. Then his family ate the tail.

In the morning he went to fish again and sang: "Taniminok! Taniminok! Taniminok!" Again he caught a salmon and drew it out and made a fire and cooked it, but tossed the tail aside. He ate the fish. Then he went home. "Children, a tail!" he cried. "Many came to me and begged." "Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah!" they cried.

In the morning he went again. Then the children’s mother said: "Let us go and see, to make sure that there are many who beg." When they saw him she said" "There he is, fishing." He was singing: "Taniminok!" "Taniminok!" "Taniminok!" Then he drew out a fish, made fire, and threw the tail to one side. Then he cooked the fish and ate it. The woman said: "Come, we will go away. He is eating the salmon alone." Then they returned to the house. They turned over the flat rock on which acorns are pounded and entered the ground.
