The Acorn Maidens

"It is said that once acorns were Yassaras (spirits). Life Givers came and told them, ‘You are going to go. You must all have nice hats, but you must weave them.’

When they started to weave their hats, they said, ‘We must all wear good looking hats.’

Then suddenly, Life Giver told them, ‘You better go. Human is being raised.’

Black Oak Acorn had not finished her hat. She picked up her big pole basket. And Tan Oak Acorn did not clean her hat, and the uneven straw ends stuck out the side of her basket, so she just wore it wrong side out when she finished it.

The Post Oak Acorn just finished her hat out good. She finished and cleaned it well.

Then Tan Oak Acorn said, ‘Wouldn’t I be the best acorn soup though my hat is not cleaned?’

Then they went. They spilled (from the heavens) into Human’s place. Then they said, ‘Human will spoon us up. They were Yassaras (spirits) too, but they were heavenly Yassaras.’

They shut their eyes and then turned their faces into their hats when they came to this earth here. That is the way the acorns did.
