TRADITIONAL AND INVENTED PATTERNS
Probably the most powerful and inventive weaver living today is Ada Charles (born 1909), who still lives most of the year on the banks of the lower Klamath River. Her invention lies in
using traditional patterns boldly and in her eye for combining designs on different parts of the cap. She has the largest repertoire of Yurok designs and has woven the greatest number of caps of
any living weaver over her long lifetime (fig. 28).
