TRADITIONAL AND INVENTED PATTERNS

Amy Smoker, of the generation born about 1899, used an invented pattern in the quill cap in our exhibition (fig. 27). Other excellent weavers also adopted this pattern, but Amy Smoker more frequently favored it and was well known as a weaver of superfine caps. This spectacular cap was woven for her daughter Helen when she was an adult and no longer of the age when she would dance.
