WILL THE TRADITIONAL WEAVING OF BASKET CAPS RETURN?
A younger generation of Hupa weavers may significantly emerge, since four younger Hupa weavers have now begun making basket caps: Jackie Colegrove,
Wendy Ferris, Edie Grant Norton (fig. 12), and Deborah McConnell. There are more cap makers among the Karuk and Yurok than in other tribes, but only a handful of weavers in mid-life
and possibly only one or two beginning cap weavers. Susan "Tweet" Burdick is the most accomplished weaver of this mid-life generation (fig. 13). She has taught many of the current
younger and even older weavers who began to weave later in life in both college and community classes.
