We get students from all across the country, from the west coast, east coast, Gulf coast, Alaska and Hawaii, even from land-locked states. Many of our students want a degree that will help them get a job in some kind of marine-related science right after school. Many others want a degree that will help them get into the best graduate schools. Some just want to get a degree with a focus on the ocean, including environmental awareness, even though they may not intend to pursue it as a career.

Above: Students conduct hands-on research in our laboratories, and collect samples aboard our 90-foot Research Vessel, Coral Sea.
What do they have in common? They love science and they love the ocean. They want to go to college at a student-centered school that blends classroom learning and hands-on, practical experiences. They want to study with faculty who love to teach. They want opportunities to learn skills and participate in real and meaningful research.
That's why they come here.
