Quartarenite

Quartzarenites are pure quartz sandstones (>95% quartz), often representing reworked sedimentary deposits. The photo, under crossed polarizers, shows subrounded quartz grains cemented by quartz in optical continuity with the grains. Quartz overgrowths around individual grains are identifiable because of a thin veneer of hematite "dust" around some original grain boundaries.
