During the academic year 2002-03, I was on leave from Humboldt State University as a Visiting Fellow in the Faculty of Arts at the National University of Ireland, Galway in the fall and in the spring a Fulbright Visiting Professor in Belgium at the University of Mons-Hainaut and in the interuniversity American Studies master's program at the Royal Library in Brussels.

My teaching schedule for fall semester 2008 is as follows:

In each class I strive to help students learn how to think ethically and knowledgeably about American government and politics. It is my goal for students to acquire the ability to ask questions, to find requisite sources of information, and to develop skills they need to analyze, evaluate, and communicate political ideas.

I research and publish in the areas where democratic theory, public opinion, elections, legislative behavior, constitutional law, and quantitative analysis converge. Some of my recent work has been related to Moral Politics and the Indian Civics Education Project funded by the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, which included American Indian Religion and Public Land.
