Netscape Navigator/Communicator, developed by Netscape Communications, has become a household name for web browsing software. It is easy to use, and it's status as a standard for web-based software has allowed it to be easily compatible wih a number of operating systems.

Microsoft Internet Explorer is one of the top rated Internet browsers, and the most widely used becasue of it's inclusion into nearly all wintel/microsoft based systems. It is powerful and easy to use and rises above most to all Internet browsers on the market.



Opera Software A/S is based in Oslo, Norway. The browser Opera was developed in 1994 by a team of researchers working for the Norwegian Telecommunication company, Telenor. The webpage talks of it's speed and ease of use, but it is only valid for 30 days of use. Then it must either be purchased or de-installed.


A german based company, iCab is a small, yet powerful internet browser. It uses a lot less system resources than any of the others. This browser is not yet JAVA enabled.
