RESEARCH (on going, long-term research projects in mycology
laboratory)
- phenology (life span of individual basidiomes; length of fruiting
season) of various basidiomes in northern California.
- Fungal flora of the Redwood National Park: 18 permanent plots
representing a variety of ecoystems have been established in the
Redwood National Park and a species list of fungi found in each
of these plots is brought up-to-date each season since Fall, 1993.
- Fungal flora of the Galbreath Ranch (HSU-owned) found in Mendocino
County.
- Agaricales of California: continuation of publishing the flora
of the Agaricales of California. Next family to be covered--the
Pluteaceae.
- Odors and Tastes in Macromycetes and their function in the
life strategies of basidiomes: Dr. William Wood is the major investigator
in this study which has identified the chemicals responsible for
many of the odors of fleshy fungi. Dr. Wood is presently preparing
