Tubaria: spores pale brown to cinnamon brown; gills typically subdecurrent to decurrent or broadly adante and with an obvious decurrent tooth; stature: typically omphalinoid.

In northern California, Tubaria is the only genus of brown-spored mushrooms in which the gills havea distinct decurrent tooth or are distinctly subdecurrent. Once you recognize gills with a slight decurrent tooth or distinctly subdecurrent, the genus is easily recognized in the field.
