Stropharia:
purple-brown spores; stature: typically Armillarioid.
Several species in northern California, the most abundant of which is Stropharia ambigua (see illustration).
Almost all the species can be identified as those belonging to the genus Stropharia because of their attached gills and the presence of a distinct annulus. However, there are a few which have a fleeting annulus and these can only be told from Psilocybe with difficulty.
