Leccinum: spores olivaceous; hymenophore porose; stipe with scabrosities (large, punctate areas); stature typically Tricholomatoid or Naucorioid.
Two groups of species: 1) those centered around Leccinum scabrum which has a tan-colored cap and often has light-colored scabrosities and 2) those centered around Leccinum manzanita which has a reddish-brown colored cap and often has dark-colored scabrosities.
