Hygrophorus
camarophyllus
Hygrophorus: spores white; stature type: Clitocyboid, Naucorioid, Armillarioid, Tricholomatoid in Mushroom I and Hygrophoroid in Mushroom VI. Most species of Hygrophorus have distinctly waxy gills, are fairly large in size with the pileus 2-8 inches broad, and have a bald, viscid to glutinous pileus.
Hygrocybe: spores white; stature type Omphalinoid,
Mycenoid, Collybioid, Clitocyboid, Naucorioid, Most species of
Hygrocybe have distinctly waxy gills and have a pileus
as well as a stipe which appears as if coated with wax. In addition,
species of Hygrocybe are small to relatively medium-sized
with the pileus 0.5-3 inches in diameter, have a bald pileus and/or
stipe, and can or can not have a viscid to glutinous pileus.
The fruiting bodies in Hygrophorus species do not appear as if coated with wax, are typically white, brown, gray, or dull in color, and have a stipe that is often pruinose at the apex; species of Hygrocybe have pileus and/or stipe which appear as if the surface is composed of wax, are typically bright colored (yellow, orange, or red), and have a bald stipe apex.
