Hydnellum: brown spore print; hymenophore spiny; typically species are tough and rather thick-fleshed and the growth pattern is indeterminate. Most often an indeterminate growth pattern can be recognized by the debris (leaves, twigs, needles, etc) which are stuck in the sporocarp and not removeable from it. Sarcodon (formerly Hydnum) differs by the dterminate growth pattern. Hydnellum peckii, H. suaveolans, H. aurantiacum, H. caeruleum. See Tooth Fungi
