Nidulariaceae: locate peridium,
gleba which is in the form of peridioles. In Nidula (to
the right), the top of the peridium (the lid) has disintegrated;
the peridiles which are dark are found in the bottom of the peridium.
Note the inner walls of the peridium are slanted and shiny.
. Sphaerobolaceae:
the basidiocarp is composed of a six layered peridium and has
only one peridiole. In Sphaerobolus
stellatus (to the left), the peridiole is shiny and white.
The six-layered peridium is divided in 2 three-layered portions,
the inner three are orange in the picture and the outer three
are light yellowish orange. The inner and outer layers are attached
at the tips of the 'star'.
