PLECTOMYCETIDAE: asci typically thin-walled, globose to pyriform,
evanescent; asci scattered; ascocarp a cleistothecium; with 5
orders: ascosphaeriales (nc), Elaphomycetales,
Onygenales, Eurotiales, Microascales (nc)
- Eurotiales: ascospores dextrinoid; imperfect stages
phialospores
Talaromyces vermiculatus.
- Look at cultures and locate the small, golden balls (or yellow
balls) which are the cleitothecia. You will have to use a dissecting
microscope.
- Mount three cleistothecia into Ammans. Make a semipermanent
slide. Observe the cleitothecia wall and the very tiny asci and
ascospores. These may be difficult to see since they are so small.
Emericella
nidulans: : the bright colored area is a cleistothecium
that has been squashed.
