all quizzes will be inclusive of all lecture and laboratory material covered up to and including the material covered on the date of the quiz; questions on material to be covered will be used to determine if you have looked over the material in the your textbooks

all laboratory quizzes will last between 15 and 30 minutes

  1. Examinations

4 Quizzes can be substituted for 1- 100 point examination. However, in order to substitute the quizzes, all 4 examinations have to be taken and a score of 30% or more has to be achieved on the examinations. If you score less than 30% on any examination, you can not substitute the quizzes for that examination.

VI. Field Trips and collections:

A. None required.

B. You are urged to go out into the field and collect. Your collections will be used for the quizzes on October 12 and November 30 and for the show and tell laboratory examinations on October 19 and December 7.

VII. paper

You can substitute your scores on 2 quizzes for a total 50 points by completing the following a paper. Your decision has to be made in writing by the beginning of lecture on Tuesday, 31 August. Remember you have to take all 4 quizzes and score at least 30% on the quizzes. You can not substitute the paper for those quizzes you do not take and for those quizzes that you do not score at least 30%.

PAPER

Has to be at least 6 pages long, excluding the Bibliography

Has to be single-spaced and in a 10-point font.

Has to be typed using a word processing program.

Has to have a Bibliography which includes the most recent publications on the topic and a Literature Search by the Library

Has to have a copy on a computer disc as well as a hard copy

Has to use good grammar, syntax, and contain no errors in spelling. Paragraphs have to flow together.

Due dates:

Topic is to be selected by 31 August at the beginning of the lecture; paper can not be chosen after this time and date; duplicate papers are not acceptable. Choice of topic has to be acceptable to the lecture instructor.

A complete Outline of the paper, acceptable to the instructors, is to be completed by Tu November 9; if the outline is not acceptable, you can not complete the paper. You are to discuss what is meant by a complete outline prior to this date.

Paper has to be completed and turned in by Tu December 7
